So You Feeling Lucky? Your cards or mine

deck-of-cardsEver get to the point where you are forcing yourself to workout? You know you are tired of the same old routine or maybe just so lazy that you do not want to plan your workout at all. I have been there, we all have.

We play a little game at Camp called “Deck of Cards”. There are different variations out there, but the idea is the same, to change up your workout and make it more fun.

How to Play

1. Get 2 Decks of Cards

2. Decide on what 8 exercises you want to do. I recommend, 2 upper body, 2 lower body, 2 core and 2 cardio/full body.

3. Then decide on what cards will equal what. Sample:

Deck 1:

  1. Spade = Push Ups
  2. Hearts= Squats
  3. Clover= Burpees (updowns)
  4. Diamonds= Plank Worms

Do this for the other deck as well.

4. Now giving value to the cards. Here is how we give our values (which will sometimes change)

  1. 2-10 cards = card number in reps
  2. Face Cards = 10 Reps
  3. Aces = 12 Reps
  4. Joker = 15 Reps of all exercises for that deck.

Now that you have done all the set up work, here is how you play.

Take a card from one deck, do that exercise with the amount of reps, then go to the other deck. you keep repeating this cycle until you have completed both decks or if you have a time limit.

Here is a sample of the card game at work in boot camp.
