Ever Think About Training Like an Olympic Speed Skater?

The video below shows Anton Ohno doing a step workout. (Not that cheesy machine in membership gyms that allows the user to achieve maximal poor posture.) Ohno and the rest of the US speed skating team use a real set of steps. A typical high intensity workout consists of 14 sets of hitting every step, then every third step and finally every fifth step. Next time you find yourself on a flight of steps, think about how difficult it would be to do 14 sets of stepping on only every fifth step. This workout allows Anton Ohno to engage all the muscles that he uses during his speed skating events. I should also mention that the step workout is post weight training and resistive belt exercises, pretty impreesive, huh? His cool down is a simple 1 mile run.

These workouts are insane. A lot of people only think about speedskating every 4 years during the Olympics, but they’re working out like this year round. It’s amazing.
I’m helping US Speedskating with social media and we continue to post more content on their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/USSpeedskating . Check it out if you’re interested in catching up with these athletes!
